I've spent more than 30 years working in and around communications, mostly in technology. I've led in-house teams, run agencies, and advised founders and boards as an independent consultant. Along the way I also became a qualified coach. The more senior the work got, the more obvious it was that communications and leadership development are the same problem approached from different directions.
Experience
My background spans corporate communications, brand, crisis, organisational change, and agency leadership. I've worked with technology businesses at different stages of growth, from early-stage founders figuring out how to talk about what they do, to established businesses managing the complexity that comes with scale.
Clients I've worked with include WeTransfer, Otrium, OneFootball, moo.com, and Until, among others. Amongst other things, I'm currently a fractional strategic advisor to mid sized PR agency and providing strategic ESG support to an international education group.
Coaching
I'm a qualified transformation coach and a Certified WHY Coach through The Optimism Company, Simon Sinek's organisation. My coaching practice is accredited and held to professional ethical standards.
I came to coaching through my communications work. I kept noticing that the most useful thing I could do for a senior leader wasn't always to give them better messaging. Sometimes it was to give them better questions. That's where the coaching came from.
How I Work
I work independently and directly. You won't be passed to a team or a junior. I can work flexibly around what you need, whether that's a defined project, a retainer, or an interim arrangement.
I'm based in the UK and work primarily with technology businesses, though I'm not limited to either. Most of my work is conducted in English, though I'm comfortable working in international contexts.
I try to keep things practical. I'm not going to give you a framework when a conversation would do the job faster.
A Note on Confidentiality
Most of what I do is confidential by nature. Crisis work, board-level communications, coaching: none of it belongs in a case study. I mention clients where I have permission to do so, and I'm discreet where I don't. If you'd like references or to understand my experience in a particular area in more depth, I'm happy to have that conversation directly.
